Binding The Earth Crawler
Using the Feat Bind Elemental as an artificer allows a character to mimic a spell required to bind elementals. Magic of Eberron (see table, Magic of Eberron p.13) implies that Colossal Elementals can be so bound, proposed spell (though it doesn’t matter as an artificer) for such an effect is Gate.
Regardless the Artificer use of this feat allows for a simple UMD check, with a DC 20 + CL of the item, in place of any spell.
Thus Jnvgf insists on binding Earth Elemental Colossal Monstrous Centipedes with the Earth Elemental Template (Manual of the Planes p.191), for simplicity’s sake these are referred to as “”/wikis/earth-crawler" class=“wiki-page-link”>Earth Crawlers."
Earth Crawlers have the following Relevant stats: Colossal Elemental (Earth), Will Save +8, Charisma 2.
If an Earth Crawler breaks free from Binding, there will be a stat block provided.
First Jnvgf must emulate the planar binding effect and magic circle effects with a UMD check of 20+CL of Item [between 27 and 41, the Warlock’s Deceive Item special ability allows Jnvgf to take 10 on all UMD checks.]
Second The Earth Crawler gets an Escape attempt, as that it has no SR and no magical abilities, it’s only option is a Charisma Check. The Earth Crawler rolls 1d20-4, against a DC that is, at minimum 29, but could be as high as 42. This Escape attempt is impossible baring any house rules.
Third Jnvgf must implore the Earth Crawler to be bound into a magical item. This is an opposed charisma check. Assuming asking the Earth Crawler to be so bound is the worst fate possible, the Earth Crawler gains a +6 bonus to its check. Jnvgh gains +6 naturally, and the Earth Crawler’s final bonus is +2. If this process fails, Jnvgh releases the Earth Crawler and tries again.

Fn2. 2nd level Cleric spell, Caster Level 8 (for 8 hours), the cost for creating the wand is 375 gp × the level of the spell (2) × the level of the caster (8). Wands are always fully charged when created. Dragon Wands come with 3 charges per day, this wand is crafted with 1 charge per day, and thus costs 1/3 the final price.
(375 × 2 × 8)/3 = 2,000.
Fn3. 2nd level Cleric spell, Caster Level 7 (for +12), the cost for creating the wand is 375 gp × the level of the spell (2) × the level of the caster (7). Wands are always fully charged when created. Dragon Wands come with 3 charges per day, this wand is crafted with 3 charges per day as normal.
375 × 2 × 7 = 5,250.
Final GP cost: 1,105,000 (Reduced = GP 120,555.5)
Final XP cost: 44,200
Final Time cost: 2,210 days, or roughly 316 weeks, or 73 months , or 6 years…. An apprenticeship really.
Gold Deficit: 10,555.5 GP
Solution #1: The Workshop
1st thing that Jnvgf builds is to build 40 Dedicated Wrights (Homunculus).
Jnvgf goes on building Dedicated Wrights, as his Dedicated Wrights set up a workshop.
Dedicated Wrights have +7 to the Relevant Craft Skill, and always take 10 on craft.
Dedicated Wrights build a series of items ranging in DC 10 to 15, with values of 10 GP to 25 GP.
Each item crafted by a Dedicated Wright requires 1 week to complete.
Multiple types of Items are produced from the craft shop as to avoid flooding the market and reducing prices.
Acids being the lowest profit items that they can make (profit of 1.67 gp per Homunculus per week), and Silver Holy Symbols being the highest profit items that they can make (profit of 4.17 gp per Homunculus per week).
Assuming dismal odds, we’ll go with only acids and other 10 gp items happen to sell, or that high selling items and market flooding result in all items only really producing an average of 1.67 gold per week.
The Wrights produce mundane goods as Jnvgf spends 316 weeks crafting all the items required to become a demilich, the goods are sold to the Arcane Academy, in exchange for resources required.
40 wrights working for 316 weeks producing at 1.6 GP per week: 20,224 GP
40 wrights at 229.11 GP per wright cost: 9,164.4 GP
Final Profit: 11,059.6 GP which pays for the Deficit, and leaves a little pocket money in Jnvgf’s pocket for goods.
Jnvgf donates all but 1 of the Dedicated Wrights to the Arcane Academy to show appreciation for their assistance. Jnvgf then takes some time to craft a larger sized Packmate Homunculus to serve as a mobile laboratory for his last Dedicated Wright to work in.

3 Multiply Craft DC by 1.7 (Homunculus taking 10 on Craft check and divided by 10 for silver), this should be greater than or equal to the Market Value to craft in 1 week.
Solution #2: Loan Sharks
Take out a Loan from the Arcane Academy with a DC 25 Diplomacy check (easy enough to pass with taking 10), for 2,500 gp, this money is then spent on shady business dealings with any Diablist Mage to conjure a Devil and make a Fuastian pact (Fiendish Codex II: pg. 24), for a R.3 15% additional wealth, granting an additional 16,500 GP.
Jnvgf has enough to pay off the Arcane Academy’s loan, and fill the deficit.
The only down side is that Jnvgf will need to commit some R.3-R.4 worth of corrupt acts…. which won’t matter much once Jnvgf is a Demilich.
